Free Books: Historic Houses of South Carolina

Free Books: Historic Houses of South Carolina

The drawings include floor plans, elevations, and some building details. The details often include doors, windows, trim, etc. These drawings were performed under the guidance of the Historic American Buildings Survey program initiated during the Great Depression to record as many of the historical architectural buildings in the USA as possible. This drawing set is extremely accurate. This book contains all of the house drawings in the Library of Congress files for the entire city of Charleston, SC up to this date. Some of the famous historic houses have not been drawn yet.

The book pages contain razor sharp, high resolution black line drawings on natural cream paper. The original large format drawings were scanned with a digital scanner. The original large scale pencil drawings have faded over the years so the scans were weak. Our publishing company developed a unique computer program to restore the line weight and density to make the original drawings look almost as good as the day they were drawn. Next we erased the large number of dirt spots that accumulated over the past 75 years. If that was not enough, we had to resort to drafting missing or damaged lines. Many drawings are beautiful enough to frame as artwork.
